Turkey was an early mover in this space, introducing serialization / traceability requirements in the late 2000s and going live – after some delays – on January 1, 2010.
Initial phase was focused on item-level serialisation (ITS system), to which the PTS system supporting full Track and Trace was added in 2012. All medicinal products for human use are in scope, and all participants in the medicines supply chain need to participate. Coding is fully aligned with GS1, using a 4-Element 2D Data Matrix. |
